'Tis the season to be jolly! So why not make a visit to the Main Library part of your downtown holiday tradition? Holiday activities, crafts, and performances by popular entertainers for the entire family to enjoy will take place in the Reading Garden Lounge of the Main Library on the first three Saturdays in December.

While you’re at the Main Library, enjoy plenty of other ways to keep your holiday spirit running high.

“Golden Legacy: Original Art from 65 Years of Golden Books” Exhibit

See an extensive selection of original art from American publishing’s best-loved picture–book series, Little Golden Books. Organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature in Abilene, Texas. “The Golden Legacy” will be on view in the Main Library Atrium and Children’s Learning Center through February 21.

“Peter G. Thomson Collection” Exhibit

Visit the Joseph S. Stern, Jr. Cincinnati Room in the Main Library to explore the colorful wonderland of illustrations from books published by Peter G. Thomson of Cincinnati. The exhibit includes alphabet books and Mother Goose favorites that will dazzle the eye and spark the imagination. Revisit the childhood wonder of circuses and fairy tales, such as Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella through February 17.

The Library’s Storybook Trees

Trees decorated with storybook character ornaments hand-made by the Federated Garden Clubs of Cincinnati and Vicinity will be on view in the Reading Garden Lounge and Children’s Learning Center through January 2.

Ride the Holly Jolly Downtown Trolley

The Holly Jolly Trolley runs on Fridays and Saturdays (November 23-December 22) from noon to 5 p.m., courtesy of Downtown Cincinnati Inc. & the merchants at The Banks! Details about all the downtown holiday events are available on Downtown Cincinnati Inc's website.

Library Friends’ Shop

You’ll find a wide variety of unique gifts and holiday cards (including The Night Before Christmas boxed sets reprinted from the Library’s collection of John B. Geyser illustrations published by Peter G. Thomson in 1883) in the Friends Shop. Extended holiday shopping hours from November 25 through December 24.

Have Breakfast or Lunch at the S&J Café

Pastry Chefs Stefan Skirtz and Andrew Johnston offer a wide variety of yummy treats in the Main Library’s new S&J Café. The morning menu features breakfast sandwiches, bagels, assorted scones, yogurt, muffins and Danish. The lunch menu includes sandwiches and salads prepared onsite as well as daily soup specials. Fresh baked cookies, cupcakes, bars, and bread puddings are available all day. Beverages include a house blend coffee created by Coffee Emporium for Skirtz & Johnston, Churchill’s Teas, and a variety of cold drinks.
