Spending, Saving, Sharing for Kids is a two-year series of programs designed to provide the foundation of financial education to preschool-aged children and their parents. The key messages of this initiative are:
- Making choices are a part of managing money
- Balancing needs and wants helps to guide choices
- Learning to wait to spend on wants
- Everything has a value that affects choices
- Working at a job and earning money
- Spending, saving, and sharing
The Spending, Saving, Sharing for Kids preschool storytimes incorporate books, video clips and activities that introduce basic money concepts through everyday learning experiences. All 41 Library locations will offer at least one preschool storytime per quarter focusing on one or more of the key messages. Additional resources for parents and caregivers and activities for children are available on Sesame Street and PNC Grow Up Great.
The Early Childhood Financial Literacy Initiative is part of the PNC Grow Up Great Financial Education Initiative, with instruction based on the lessons included in the “For Me, for You, for Later: First Steps to Spending, Sharing and Saving,” multi-media bilingual financial education activity kit that Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, created for PNC.
