In addition to serving 250,000 customers annually in the busiest library in the North America, the TechCenter promotes computer literacy by offering over 240 computer classes each year which attract over 1,350 students. To accommodate the growing demand for customer training, on October 1, the TechCenter permanently relocated their dedicated training room to 2A on the 2nd floor of the Main Library. The new training room features adaptive hardware and software such as high contrast keyboards, roller-ball mice, and Zoomtext screen magnifiers. Eleven new wifi capable laptops replaced the 10 year-old desktops previously used for classes. A new projector and speakers allow for multimedia presentations, while a desktop camera will allow facilitators to demo the library's downloadable collection on eReaders and smart phones with ease.

The TechCenter Department staff is looking forward to being able to expand the variety and number of classes offered to Library customers. Highlights from their upcoming training calendar include:

  • Increased number of computer classes to accommodate as many schedules as possible. Now includes Monday evenings.
  • Open labs on Monday and Saturday mornings at 10. Bring your questions and projects!
  • Advanced classes in October include Web Development, Organizing Your Digital Life, and more!
  • Training room now wifi capable. Bring your own device with you!
