What’s New · Avondale Branch Accessibility Project

On March 9, the Avondale Branch Library celebrated 100 years of service to the community from its beautiful Carnegie-funded building.

In honor of the branch’s centennial anniversary, the Public Library will launch an accessibility project. This construction project will open the Avondale Branch Library’s doors to everyone by adding an alternative entrance, elevator, and two new bathrooms that will remove physical barriers to library service. Additional enhancements will include:

  • New carpeting and lighting
  • Upgraded heating, air conditioning and ventilation system
  • Improved Internet connectivity
  • Reconfigured service desk
  • Self-check machines

Project Design and Timeline

K-4 Architects are designing the ADA improvements. Project construction is estimated to take eight months, including six months for exterior work and another two months for interior renovations. The branch will remain open during this period, although some programs may be curtailed. The accessibility project is scheduled to be completed in early 2014.
