29th Annual Used Book & Record Sale Hosted by the Friends of the Public Library on Fountain Square June 4-8

As the Friends of the Public Library prepare the move to their new warehouse, theyll be clearing out a huge inventory. Like opening up the floodgates, thousands of used books, records, cassettes, videos, books-on-tape, and CDs must go. Since theres plenty of everything, more of those great buys can be had at their 29th Annual Used Book and Record Sale on Fountain Square. This year (June 4-8), book lovers craving additional food for the mind can sink their teeth into plenty of good reads. Rain or shine under three huge tents, long tables stacked from end to end with books form a labyrinth of knowledge and entertainment. The books, numbering at least 70,000, are categorized by subject for easy browsing.

Come Friday, more savings can be had on Bag Day. Purchase a shopping bag for a flat fee of only $5 and fill it up with all of your favorite items. Sale hours are Monday: 9:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; and Friday: 9:30a.m. -3:00 p.m. For more information, call 513-369-6035.

As the Library fine-tunes its collection and readers make donations throughout the year, dozens of loyal volunteers continually organize the books for the big sale. Readers can snatch up the classics (the hardbacks go quick), while others look for the odd or the unusual. A few years back one man even uncovered his high school yearbook. From fiction to nonfiction for children and adults, the sale is a smorgasbord of books on sports, cooking, travel, business, history, poetry, and more to satisfy most any appetite. All are at a fraction of the original cost (as low as 50 cents each), so even the passerby is easily tempted to sample the bargains.

Proceeds from the Friends sales are used to purchase items for the Librarys collection and to underwrite special programs including the Summer Reading Club, Bookfest, Poetry in the Garden, and Jazz in July, as well as author appearances throughout the year.
