Nine Branch Libraries to Undergo Refurbishment

 

In order to serve its customers better and improve operational efficiency, nine branches of the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County will receive major face-lifts and upgrades. This will include new carpeting, painting, plastering and minor repair, added display units, new lighting, sidewalk improvements, re-paving parking lots, refurbished and new furniture, replacement of HVAC systems, and computer upgrades. These extensive enhancements will necessitate some closings. Due to the scope of the work to be undertaken, the following scheduled closing dates are as follows:

North Central Branch Library, 11109 Hamilton Avenue, 369-6068

Closed Fri., August 10, 5 p.m. for 13 days until Fri., August 24, 10 a.m.

Exterior painting, new carpeting throughout, additional lighting in stack areas

 

Madeira Branch Library, 7200 Miami Avenue, 369-6028

Closed Sun., August 12, 4 p.m. for 18 days until Thurs., August 30, 10 a.m.

Exterior painting and masonry work, new carpeting throughout

 

Norwood Branch Library, 4325 Montgomery Road, 369-6037

Closed Fri., August 24, 5:30 p.m. for 16 weeks until Fri., December 14, 9 a.m.

New furniture, carpeting, shelving, lighting, ceiling and HVAC; reconfiguration of shelving, new circulation desk, separate audiovisual and reading room, separate teen space with couch and collection, more PC Pals and computers, restoration of Rookwood vases and Clement Barnhorn bas reliefs

New accessible ramp to Children�s Reading area, new window treatment at street, new circulation desk top, interior painting and new carpeting throughout, new lighting

 

The Westwood Branch Library, 3345 Epworth Avenue, is currently in the middle of a $1.8 million expansion and renovation project. In addition to increasing floor space 2,000 square feet to 9,755, capacity will increase 71%, the number of computers will triple from 6 to 18, and the collection size will expand from 46,000 to 63,000-plus, a 37% increase. There will also be separate teen and kids corners, a greatly expanded Dater Collection of children�s materials, more comfortable seating, bay window seats, and a separate reference desk and lift to make the main floor and basement space handicapped accessible. The branch will also receive a new roof and HVAC system. It is expected that the branch will close for several weeks towards the end of 2001 to accommodate work that cannot be done while the building is open to the public.
