The Library and Cincinnati Reds are offering a “double play” this summer with two ways to score tickets to a game. Summer Readers can read and earn chances to win grand prize tickets to a game at Great American Ball Park for Reds Reading Night on August 19 (courtesy of the Cincinnati Reds). As an added bonus, winners can also participate in a pre-game parade on the field. Plus, to celebrate the success of all summer readers, the Reds are offering discounts to two games: August 19 (during our special Summer Reading Night) and September 10 (during Red Card Night). Join us for all the fun and show your support for the Reds and the Library. For your Reds ticket discount, visit the Reds’ special website and use the code READ13. RON TANNER AUTHOR VISIT
Most guys would buy the girl they liked candy, flowers, or even a ring. Award-winning writer Ron Tanner bought his girlfriend a house. That house would become the inspiration for his book From Animal House to Our House: A Love Story. Tanner will discuss his book in the Main Library's Reading Garden Lounge on Saturday, June 22 at 2:00 p.m. A book signing will follow his presentation. Copies of his books will be available for sale courtesy of Joseph-Beth Booksellers and the Friends of the Public Library. Presented in partnership with the Cincinnati Preservation Association.

HALF A MILLION LIBRARY CARDHOLDERS
Shortly after being recognized as one of only five libraries in the U.S. to receive the 2013 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the Library hit another huge milestone. On May 21, we registered our 500,000th cardholder! This number represents about two-thirds of Hamilton County’s total population. Additionally, more than 80% of households in Hamilton County have at least one Library card. Since 2009 the number of Library cardholders has increased by 84% rising from 271,646 to 500,481. Thanks for helping us achieve this milestone!

BRANCH SPOTLIGHT-READING BRANCH
Library service has been available in the community since 1927, when the Reading Branch opened for business. The branch was managed jointly with the Lockland Branch Library on Williams Street. The two branches merged in 1965, and moved into a rental facility on the corner of Benson Street and Jefferson Avenue. In 2000, the branch moved to its current location on the corner of Reading Road and Pike Street. This year, the Library launched a major facilities initiative, which includes construction of a new 12,000 square foot branch on Reading Road. The branch offers weekly preschool storytimes (including Movers & Shakers), monthly adult and teen book clubs, and special Summer Reading Program activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays in June and July. Each month this summer, you can meet a costumed actor portraying a founding father or mother at the branch. Dolly Madison will appear on June 13, Benjamin Franklin on July 11, and Patrick Henry on August 8. The “Patriot Series” is being presented by the Reading Historical Society.
