Much of what is “common knowledge” about Charles Darwin
isn’t actually true. He did not discover evolution on the Galapagos Islands; he did not keep his theory secret for 20 years; he was not trying to undermine religion; and he was not an atheist. On Friday, April 17 at 4:00 p.m., Dr. John van Wyhe of Cambridge University will reveal what Darwin really did and said during Charles Darwin: The True Story at the Main Library’s Huenefeld Tower Room (800 Vine Street, 3rd Floor). The program is co-sponsored by the Library Programs Fund and the University of Cincinnati in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his famous work, On the Origin of Species.
On March 23, Fiscal Officer Patricia Schoettker (center) and Fiscal Services Manager Molly DeFosse accepted the 2007 Making Your Tax Dollars Count Award bestowed by Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor for being in the top 5 percent of finance directors in the state honored for careful spending, accurate fiscal recording and efficiency. The award was presented by Carl Enslen, Southwest Ohio Regional Liaison for the State Auditor. Congratulations to Pat, Molly, and everyone in the Fiscal Office!
