Meet Bestselling Author Jeff Shaara
Meet Bestselling Author Jeff Shaara In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, author Jeff Shaara will discuss his bestselling war novels in the Main Library on Saturday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. His remarks, followed by a book signing, will take place in the Reading Garden Lounge on the first floor. His work includes Gods and Generals and The Last Full Measure, the prequel and sequel to his Pulitzer Prize-winning father's famous Civil War novel The Killer Angels. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Public Library and the Library Programs Fund.

There are still a few reservations left to enjoy lunch with the author at the Library Foundation's special fundraising reception at noon, prior to Jeff Shaara's free public talk. Tickets are $100 and include lunch, a meet & greet with the author, priority seating for the lecture, and an autographed copy of Gods and Generals. April is National Poetry Month
April is National Poetry Month The Poetry in the Garden series, sponsored by the Friends of the Public Library, returns to the Main Library's Reading Garden Lounge during National Poetry Month. Talented poets from around the Tristate will read from their work and share their love of poetry. Programs will be held on Tuesday evenings April 5, 19 and 26 at 7:00 p.m.

Teens are invited to take part in the Library's 9th Annual Random Acts of Poetry Contest from April 1-30. Teens ages 12-18 can email their original poems or turn their typed or handwritten poems into any Library location for their shot at first prize: a $25 gift card to Chipotle! Meet Suspense Author Brian Freeman
Brian Freeman, author of The Bone House Lovers of the mystery genre and aspiring writers alike can enjoy a presentation by international bestselling suspense author Brian Freeman at the Delhi Township Branch Library on Wednesday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. Since winning the Macavity Award for best first novel in 2005 for Immoral, Freeman has released five more critically acclaimed psychological suspense novels, including his recently released book, The Bone House. He will share anecdotes about the mystery genre, the creative process, and the ups and downs of a writer's life.
Children's Book Day Festival
Children's Book Day Festival Travel around the world in 180 minutes at El Dia De Los Niños/De Los Libros or Children's Book Day on Saturday, April 30 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Madeira Branch Library. Enjoy this exciting literacy fiesta celebrating all cultures. Highlights of the program include an international storytime in multiple languages, free children's books (while supplies last), costumed storybook characters, zumba instruction with Rayza Ramirez, Indian Dance with the Cultural Centre of India, and refreshments courtesy of Costco Wholesale. The festival is presented in partnership with the Kenton County Public Library and the Cincinnati Recreation Commission with additional support from the Friends of the Public Library and the Kersten Fund.
Homework Help Expanded
As the end of the school year nears, children are grappling with more homework assignments and trying to prepare for Ohio Achievement Tests. Don't despair because the Library can help. In-person homework assistance is available six days a week in Homework Central at the Main Library and one day a week at the Avondale, Bond Hill, College Hill, Price Hill, and West End branch libraries. Beginning on April 7, on site tutors will also be available Monday-Thursday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Madisonville, Reading, and Walnut Hills branch libraries. Save the Date to Celebrate Arthur's 35th Birthday
Save the Date to Celebrate Arthur's 35th Birthday Plan to join us on Saturday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library to celebrate 35 years of Arthur with his creator Marc Brown. The author of the #1 New York Times bestselling children's book series and six-time Emmy Award-winning television series will talk about Arthur, everyone's favorite aardvark. He'll share how he writes and illustrates his stories and where his ideas and beloved book characters come from.

Prior to Marc Brown's free presentation, there will be a surprise birthday party for Arthur. Children and their parents are invited to enjoy a visit and photo with the costumed storybook character Arthur, lunch, birthday cake, and fun aardvark activities—all for $25 each or $75 for a family of four. Downloadable Music Coming Soon! Having a Library card has never been more valuable. Cardholders will soon be able to download free music. All music will be free and you'll get to keep it forever. You'll be able to select from hundreds of thousands of songs. All songs will work with any MP3 player, iPod, iPhone, and can be loaded into iTunes. It will work with both PCs and Macs. The new service will begin in mid-May so make sure your Library card registration is current and your fines are under $10.
