For Me, For You, For Later
|
"For Me, For You, For Later" is a series of programs designed to provide the foundation of financial
education to preschool-aged children and their parents. Using content developed by the Sesame Workshop,
the preschool storytimes incorporate books, video clips and activities that introduce basic money
concepts through everyday learning experiences. Starting in January, all 41 Library locations will
offer at least one storytime each quarter focusing on the first steps to spending, sharing, and
saving. This series is made possible by a grant from the PNC Bank Foundation and administered by

Financial Planning Day
|
|
On Saturday, January 28, the Library will present Financial Planning Day, in partnership with
the City of Cincinnati Mayor's Office. The program will include educational talks and workshops on
personal finance topics and customers will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with financial
planners. It will be held at the Main Library. Watch the Library's website for details later.

Do you have an eReader? Learn how to use the Library's downloadable collection
to borrow eBooks. This presentation will teach you how to use your home computer to search, borrow,
and download free eBooks from our website. Click here for the

eBOOK SERVICE ENHANCEMENTS
|
|
The Library has changed the way it provides downloadable materials. This will allow the Library to
better respond to the needs of our cardholders. You can now check out ebooks for 21 days and there
is a brand new, more user friendly site for borrowing and downloading material.

Jewish Songwriters Featured in Exhibit
|
Using images from Broadway musicals, classic films, and personal collections,
"A Fine Romance: Jewish Songwriters, American Songs, 1910-1965" tells the story of Jewish artists
who created songs of wit, sophistication, and optimism through America's ups and downs during the
20th century. The exhibit will be on view in the atrium of the Main Library from
January 13-February 23. A series of musical and educational programming will
accompany the exhibit.

Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This January, the Library will honor the life and the dream of America's greatest champion of
racial justice, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Locations throughout Hamilton County will celebrate
MLK Day with art, music, stories, songs, and more! For a complete list of

Teen Drawing Contest
|
From January 1-31, teens are invited to participate in the Library's 2nd Annual Teen Drawing Contest.
This year's "Fan Art" theme calls for teens to paint or draw a scene from one of their favorite books.
The Art Academy of Cincinnati is partnering with the Library to provide programs to help teens develop
their ideas into final artwork. Additional support is provided by Chipotle Mexican Grill and the

Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra String Quartet
|
Visit the Westwood Branch Library on Saturday, January 21 at 2:00 p.m. for a fun-filled
classical music experience for the entire family, performed by a string quartet comprised of members
of the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras. Sponsored by the Valerio Family Fund.

Christian Moerlein Brewery Panel Discussion
|
Celebrate the return of Cincinnati's grand brewing tradition at the Main Library on
Saturday, January 21 at 2:00 p.m. as beer historians discuss the Christian Moerlein Company
and renewed interest in the Queen City's German brewing heritage. Panelists include Steve Hampton,
Greg Hardman, Michael D. Morgan, Don Heinrich Tolzmann, and moderator Dan Hurley.

75th Anniversary of the 1937 Flood
|
In January, the Library commemorates the 75th anniversary of the 1937 Flood through a series of
exhibits, programs, and resources. River Still Rising, an exhibit of historical newspapers, letters,
diaries, maps and photographs, brings to life the local impact of one of the worst disasters in Ohio
River history. The exhibit runs January 14-April 26 in the Joseph S. Stern, Jr. Cincinnati Room
at the Main Library. The Virtual Library will also feature 1937 flood materials including scrapbooks
from the Library's collection, as well as photographs, diary entries, and letters showing the 1937
flood's impact on the Cincinnati area, courtesy of submissions to the 3rd Digitization Contest
from private collections.
On "Flood Remembrance Day," January 28, historian and author Betty Ann Smiddy will present
Cincinnati's Great Disaster: The 1937 Flood at the Main Library. Scrapbooking programs related to
the flood will be offered in TeenSpot and on the Main Library's third floor, where adults will share
flood memories. Staff will be available to scan flood-related personal photographs while customers

Unique Cincinnati-area Homes Showcased
|
|
"My Cincinnati House" is a new series starting in January at the Main Library. Every other month,
the owners of a beautiful home in the area will present a program about the history of their house
and share their experiences. On Saturday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m., Jim Creech will talk about his
city house built in the heart of Over-the-Rhine in 1847. When he bought it 140 years later, he
discovered many imprints left on the property from the owners who preceded him. "The bricks and
mortar have turned out to be a portal into time and into a very human history."

Author Series Begins
|
|
Throughout 2012, the Library will host a variety of authors for adults, teens, and kids. This year's
author series kicks off on Sunday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library with Cincinnati
Enquirer reporter Mark Curnutte who will share some of the stories chronicled in his book,
A Promise in Haiti: A Reporter's Note on Families and Daily Lives.
