SUMMER READING KICKOFF PARTIES—JUNE 2

Popular musical performers will launch Summer Reading on Saturday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. with lively entertainment. Kids will be invited to decorate a book bag and enjoy snacks courtesy of United Dairy Farmers and Costco Wholesale. Here’s the rockin’ line up:

CINCINNATI SYMPHONY CONCERTS

Fun-filled classical music experiences for the entire family will be presented in mid-June, sponsored by the Valerio Family Fund. For a performance by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's String Quartet, visit the Loveland Branch on Thursday, June 14 at 1:00 p.m. A concert by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's Woodwind Quintet will also be offered at the Symmes Township Branch on Saturday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m.

BOOKS ALIVE! FOR KIDS
|
In partnership with Learning Through Art, Inc., the Library will present ten Books Alive! programs this summer to excite kids about music and celebrating the world around them. Each program includes a book (What a Wonderful World by George Weiss who wrote lyrics for the song made famous by Louis Armstrong), an interactive performance by trumpeter Wesley Barnfield, and a related craft.

MARVEL OVER SPIDERMAN

To coincide with the summer movie blockbusters, The Amazing Spiderman and Marvels’ The Avengers, Spiderman and some of his superhero colleagues will be at the Main Library on June 23 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Kids are invited to come for crafts, photos and to see all the amazing ways that Spidey READS—on the ground, in the air, or on a wall!

MAJOR GIFT CELEBRATES LIFE OF EVA JANE ROMAINE COOMBE
|
|
The Library Foundation received a $1 million gift celebrating the life of Eva Jane Romaine Coombe. The gift, received from the Estate of Eva Jane Romaine Coombe through the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, will endow the Library Director’s position.The gift is among the largest ever received by the Library or the Foundation.

TOP TEN TREASURES TOUR UNVEILED
|
|
The Main Library boasts some amazing art and a remarkable collection. To learn more about the Library’s top ten treasures, a QR code tour has been developed. All you need is a smartphone to discover these highlights. Just look for the special tour signs featuring a QR code and scan it using any free QR code reader app. The Ten Library Treasures Tour will be available at the Main Library beginning June 8.

ARTISTS’ BOOKS ON VIEW
|
The Cincinnati Book Arts Society's 13th annual exhibit of artists' books features work from regional artists and binders. These demonstrate a variety of technical approaches, from altered books to finely crafted bindings. The exhibit is on view in the Main Library atrium from June 12—September 3.
In conjunction with Bookworks 13, The Keith Kuhn Memorial Artists' Book Exhibit displays books from the Library's collection of regionally and nationally recognized book artists on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Main Library. The exhibit honors former Library Services Director Keith Kuhn, who helped build interest in artists’ books.
