MEET AUTHOR WILL SCHWALBE
|
Meet Will Schwalbe, author of this year’s On the Same Page selection, The End of Your Life Book Club, on Saturday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s Reading Garden Lounge. The author will discuss his book and answer questions. A book signing will follow the program and books will be available for purchase courtesy of Joseph-Beth Booksellers. The program is free and open to the public. On the Same Page is a project of the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County and is made possible in part by the Friends of the Public Library, and Joseph-Beth Booksellers with media support from 91.7 WVXU, The Cincinnati Enquirer / Cincinnati.com, and CET. Other partners are The Mercantile Library, Cincinnati Metro, The College of Mount St. Joseph, the Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati, and Xavier University, the Edward B. Brueggeman Center for Dialogue.

NANCY PEARL VIRTUAL AUTHOR VISIT

Visit the Main Library’s Reading Garden Lounge on Saturday, March 23 at 2:00 p.m. to hear about NPR personality Nancy Pearl's favorite memoirs and find out what she thinks you should read next! Since the release of her best-selling Book Lust in 2003 and the Librarian Action Figure modeled in her likeness, Nancy Pearl has become a rock star among readers and the tastemaker people turn to when choosing books. Her Skype program is one of many events being held as part of this year’s On the Same Page community wide reading program. Check our program calendar for a complete schedule.

HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY, AVONDALE BRANCH LIBRARY
|
The Avondale Branch Library is celebrating 100 years of service to the community at its current location, 3566 Reading Road, on Saturday, March 9. Throughout the day, a display of historic photos will be on view and the Friends of the Public Library will host a used book sale. A brief ceremony at 1:00 p.m. will feature music by area students, comments by Library and community leaders, and the unveiling of a special project that will benefit the neighborhood and area residents. Refreshments, face-painting, entertainment by Radio One, and activities for all ages will follow until 3:00 p.m.

STREAMING VIDEOS COMING SOON!
|
The Library will soon offer streaming videos to cardholders along with downloadable books, audiobooks, magazines, and music. This new service, Freegal Movies, is provided by the same company that supports our music download service. Library cardholders will enjoy hundreds of popular movies and TV shows with Freegal Movies. Like Freegal Music, the new movie service allows the Library to license content for an annual fee. The streaming video service is expected to launch in March.

APPLY FOR A PASSPORT AT THE MAIN LIBRARY

National Passport Day is Saturday, March 9, and the Main Library is making it easy to apply for a passport all weekend. The Information & Reference Department, located on the second floor, will have additional staff available to assist customers with their passport applications Saturday, March 9, from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 10, from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Can’t make it March 9 or 10? The Main Library’s Information & Reference Department accepts passport applications seven days a week. MEET AUTHOR ALEXANDER MCCALL SMITH
|
Acclaimed and beloved bestselling author Alexander McCall Smith will visit the Main Library on Saturday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m. Best known for his internationally acclaimed “No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” series, the author has written more than 80 books, including three other series: the Scotland Street novels, the Sunday Philosophy Club series featuring amateur sleuth Isabel Dalhousie, and the Corduroy Mansions novels, as well as short story collections, and a number of immensely popular children’s books. His free talk will be followed by a book signing. A selection of book titles will be available for purchase courtesy of Joseph-Beth Booksellers.

COMIC CON WRITING & DRAWING EVENTS

The Main Library will host its first Comic Con on Sunday, May 5. In anticipation of the fun, writers and illustrators can get their superhero-sci-fi-zombie-manga fix with a wide range of workshops and contests being held during March and April. GREEN TOWNSHIP BRANCH BOOK SALE

The Friends of the Public Library will host its first branch book sale of the year at the Green Township Branch Library, 6525 Bridgetown Road, from Thursday, March 14 through Saturday, March 16. A wide selection of gently used popular fiction and nonfiction in hardback and paperback, as well as CDs, DVDs, audio and video tapes, and books-on-tape/CD will be sold at bargain prices. Items may be purchased with cash, check, MasterCard or Visa. For more information about book sales, visit the Friends website.
