An English housewife is drawn into an affair with a young pilot in Dunmore's (The Betrayal, 2010) Gothic-tinged romance. In the winter of 1952, Isabel Carey moves to a remote Yorkshire village with her doctor husband, Philip. On a particularly frigid night Isabel, hunting through a cupboard for blankets, finds a RAF greatcoat and puts it on. Soon after she hears a knock at the door, and meets a young man named Alec. The coat, it seems, belonged to him--before he died. An atmospheric literary chiller.
