The Black Box
Connelly’s 18th Harry Bosch novel (after The Drop, 2011) opens days after the 1992 Los Angeles riots. In a South Central alley, Bosch and his partner examine the body of a female photojournalist who’s been shot dead. They retrieve a spent 9mm shell casing, but then the case is handed off to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved. 20 years later, Bosch is assigned to the Open-Unsolved Unit of the LAPD. Forensic technology links the bullet from a recent murder to a gun, the Iraq War, AND the bullet found back in 1992. What is the “black box” that links the two deaths together?
