Ten-year-old Blue spends the summer trying to find the mother she never met. On a wintry day in 1941 newborn Blue was found wrapped in quilt, stuffed in a kettle in a small Vermont town. Hannah Spooner, a kind and giving woman, adopted Blue and their simple farm life is uneventful yet challenging. This summer Blue is determined to resolve the questions of her heritage. Blue can’t wait for her best friend Nadine to arrive as she does every summer when she vacations in Vermont. Nadine has changed, Blue is growing up, and she now has a better understanding of family. A poignant and satisfying story by the author of From Dawn Till Dusk (2002) and Gifts from the Sea (2003). Ages 8-11
