Forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway journeys to Lancashire to investigate the suspicious death of a former colleague in Griffiths's (The House at Sea's End, 2011) latest mystery. Shortly after she learns that Dan Golding has died in a fire, Ruth receives a posthumous letter from him inviting her to examine some bones he had recently discovered--bones he believed to be that of King Arthur. Ruth, her toddler daughter, and Ruth's druid friend Cathbad all head to the north of England. There Ruth teams up with her former lover, Detective Harry Nelson, to probe her friend's death. A wonderfully engaging read.
