cover image of Lullaby (For a Black Mother)
Langston Hughes

Langston Hughes’ lullaby celebrates the love of a mother and her baby as she goes through the ritual of putting her baby to bed. Written more than 80 years ago, it is playful and modern in this picture book edition with lush collage illustrations by Sean Qualls. A beautiful baby and mother dance in the night sky with “A necklace of stars, winding the night.” A photo of Hughes as an infant in his mother’s arms is included with a biographical note about the poet. A gentle and quiet lullaby. Ages 4-8
