A Barstool History of London As Seen Through the Windows of Its Oldest Pub--The George Inn
Pete Brown

The pub is a quintessential part of British life, and there are few that have seen as much history as the George, located steps away from the south end of London Bridge. While it's only a short stroll from the Globe Theater, Brown can't prove the Bard was ever there, but Dickens was, and many other notables during the inn's 600-year history. The south side of the Thames was a world unto itself, originally a waiting place to enter London or a starting place for a journey. Less gentrified than inside the City's walls, the characters spending their time and money at the George provide a lively and different aspect of British life.
