Ellen Hopkins

Hopkins continues the riveting story she began in Burned (2006), of two sisters who wrestle with guilt and fear after one kills the father who battered them. Pattyn Von Stratten, 17, is desperate for peace after her boyfriend and their unborn baby were killed in a car wreck. Alone and in disguise, she starts a new life as a migrant worker, while Jackie is stuck at home with their mother. Each sister sees herself as damaged and unlovable and feels guilt and hate for their father and mother. Both girls struggle toward fragile new connections and inner strength.
