Suzanne Collins

Suzy is the youngest of four children growing up in a safe and loving family. Her secure world abruptly changes when her father is called to serve in the jungles of Viet Nam. She understands very little about the jungle, imagining her father playing with elephants and apes. Her anxiety increases when Dad's newsy postcards stop coming and the TV news shows explosions, helicopters, rifles and soldiers on the ground. Suddenly, Dad is home, tired and thin, and Suzy notes "some things have changed but some things will always be the same." Suzanne Collins, author of the Hunger Games series has created her first children's book true to her childhood memories. A sensitive and important exploration of war and its effect on children. Ages 5-7
