John Saturnall's Feast
Set in 17th-century England, Norfolk's latest (after In the Shape of a Boar, 2001) is a magical and sensuous tale of star-crossed love. After the death of his mother, young John Saturnall is sent to work at the estate of Sir William Fremantle. At the manor, John's keen palate and natural cooking ability allow him to quickly rise from kitchen boy to cook. Trouble arises in the form of Sir William's daughter, Lucretia, who has gone on a fast to protest her impending nuptials. John is given the task of tempting Lucretia to eat--a task made more difficult by his growing attraction to her. A delight for all the senses.
