Nelly May Has Her Say

Cynthia DeFelice

Nelly May Nimble wants to earn her keep so she takes a job working for Lord Ignasius Pinkwinkle, an eccentric bachelor. His one condition is that Nelly must use the unusual names he has given to everyday objects. His bed is a “restful slumberific,” his boots are “stompinwhackers,” and his hound a “fur-faced fluffenbarker” with a ”wigger-wagger” (tail) When fire threatens his estate Nelly has to wake him and announce the fire before the house is destroyed. Based on the English folktale “Master of All Masters” this clever tale sparkles with energy and wit. Ages 5-7
