The White Princess
Gregory's latest in her Cousins War series focuses on Elizabeth of York, whose marriage to Henry Tudor brings an end to the War of the Roses. Elizabeth comes to her marriage in mourning for Richard III, whom she loved deeply. Newly crowned Henry VII is less than an ideal husband and king, and constantly fears for his crown as one pretender after another arises. Elizabeth tries to be a dutiful wife and show some affection for Henry, but the presence of his dominating mother, Margaret Beaufort, causes friction. Like other titles in her series (The Kingmaker's Daughter, 2012), Gregory's rich tapestry brings Henry's court to life.
