Former African aid worker Frankie Rowley returns to the idyllic home in Pomeroy, NH, where her parents, Sylvia and Alfie, have recently retired after years of summering there. The night of Frankie’s arrival coincides with the town’s first house fire at a home belonging to wealthy summer residents. When a second fire occurs, newspaper editor Bud Jacobs, Frankie’s new love interest, begins to suspect arson. As the town becomes increasingly fearful, Sylvia is worried Alfie’s increasingly erratic behavior is a sign of Alzheimer's. Sue Miller (The Lake Shore Limited, 2010) skillfully portrays a family in crisis.
