My Last Lament
Aliki is one of the last of her kind, a lamenter. Lamenters are professional mourners tasked with remembering the dead by composing a poem honoring the life of the deceased. When a reporter asks Aliki to record her laments, Aliki decides to tell her own story instead. Her story begins in Greece when she sees her father executed by occupying Nazi's. Aliki flees Greece as the war is ending with her new makeshift family, Takis and Stelios, a Jewish refugee and her son. Her story blends tragedy with humor and is filled with both love and loss.
