Why do we ask for money?

The Annual Fund has two goals: to broaden the base of support for the Library and to secure the largest gifts possible. By making people feel good about their gifts and the giving experience, we hope to start donors on a lifetime commitment of financial support to the Library.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes. Annual Fund gifts are tax deductible in accordance with Internal Revenue Service guidelines.

Are there other ways of giving?

While annual gifts are crucial to the Library Foundation, they are not the only way to support the Library. Some other ways to give include:

  • Establishing an endowment
  • Remembering the Library in your will
  • Making a gift that will provide income throughout your life
  • Making a “gift-in-kind”
  • Memorial Gifts
  • Planned Giving

Can my gift be matched?

If you or your spouse is employed by a matching gift company, you can double or even triple the value of your gift to The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County Foundation Annual Fund. Your company’s personnel office can tell you about matching gift policies and procedures. Many companies provide a form while others allow you to electronically submit your gift information. Your level of recognition will include credit for your employer’s matching gift.

What are restricted and unrestricted gifts?

Gifts designated as unrestricted are applied towards areas of greatest need within the Library. Gifts may also be directed to any department, collections or program or designated for several purposes.

When will I be solicited?

The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County Foundation operates on a fiscal year from July 1 through June 30. Once you have made a contribution, we try to ensure that you will not be solicited again, by mail or phone, during the rest of that fiscal year.

Telephone follow-up calls are conducted once a year. Donors who have given in the current fiscal year are not called.

What are The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County annual giving societies?

The giving societies were established to recognize those annual donors who have distinguished themselves in support of the Library.

How do I contribute?

Contributors generally use cash, credit cards or securities to make their annual gifts. If you need information on transferring securities, or if you would like to use some other vehicle to make your gift, please call the Development Director’s Office.
