Happy National Library Giving Day: Celebrate by Supporting Your Branch or Honoring a Library Worker!

Written by Staci Dennison, The Thomas W. Jones Executive Director of The Library Foundation and Chief Development Officer

We have one of the best libraries in the country (yes, you read that right, the U.S.A.), here in Cincinnati. CHPL recently was given a Five-Star Library award, a major industry honor, for the eighth consecutive year. We’re also one of the top three circulating libraries in the nation along with Seattle’s King County Public Library and the New York Public Library.

On National Library Giving Day, consider giving directly to your favorite CHPL branch library through The Library Foundation.

Knowing Our “Why”

Our Library isn’t this impressive or busy because of the national accolades alone (although they are nice!). Our “why” is the community-centric mission of service that’s embodied at 41 locations throughout Hamilton County and is in the soul of every library employee. Their “why” is you.

“How can I help you?”

“Do you need help finding anything?”

Connecting you to information and programs is what we do. Each staff member works to support minds of all kinds in our communities. From traditional library materials to providing helping hands to our friends and neighbors, the list goes on and on.

Giving Back

It’s Library Giving Day 2021, a great time to give a gift through The Library Foundation to support the branch that helps you most, or in honor of a staff member (past or present) who made a difference in your life.

Befriend a Branch gifts to The Library Foundation are tax-deductible, with 100 percent of funds contributed used to help your favorite branch go further in support of the Library’s mission and what your community needs. Please consider giving a gift on Library Giving Day.

How have supporters’ Befriend a Branch gifts helped the Library remain a vital link for our community? Here are a few examples:

  • MadisonvillePurchased and stocked a MakerCart to support programming; want to expand their community garden.
  • West End: Acquired laptops for use in a new courtyard (doubling the branch’s COVID capacity limit); want to do an incentive-based writing contest for their community’s youth.
  • Harrison: Supports presenters and supplies for Memory Café, a program for memory care adults and their caregivers to connect and engage.
  • Northside: Plans to expand early literacy programming and create a new community garden.

“Community donations through Befriend a Branch and The Library Foundation are an easy way to support the great work the Library is doing in our community,” said Terry Barnum, Madisonville Branch Library Manager. “Whether it is supporting a new service like access to MakerSpace equipment or developing a community garden, Befriend a Branch donations enable our libraries to meet the evolving needs of our community. So please consider contributing today and know that no donation is too small. Together we can help enhance the services offered in our libraries, increasing our impact in the community.”

The Library Foundation is dedicated to ensuring a great library system by raising, managing, and allocating funds to expand and enhance the Library's programs. Your donations allow the Library Foundation to fund system-wide and branch-specific initiatives as well as programming for minds of all kinds. For more information or to make your gift online now: https://foundation.cincinnatilibrary.org/
