Written by Joe Armstrong, Content Specialist, Marketing, Downtown Main Library

Temperatures are dropping, a few snowflakes have fallen, and there’s a hint of holiday cheer in the air. With only a few weeks until the holidays arrive in full swing, now is the time to start making a list (and checking it twice) to make sure you have gifts for all your friends and family ready in time.

Luckily, the holiday helpers at the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library have four workshops in the Downtown Main Library, opens a new window’s Main MakerSpace, and the Mini MakerSpaces at the Loveland Branch, opens a new window, Reading Branch, opens a new window, and St. Bernard Branch, opens a new window with equipment to create gifts for everyone on your list. But before you load up your sleigh, make a reservation, opens a new window so you’ll have plenty of time to craft your presents.

Deck the Halls

It’s never too early to start showing your holiday cheer. Here are three easy decorations made in the MakerSpace to start the festivities.

Celebrate with family and friends with custom art made with the Main MakerSpace’s UV printer, opens a new window. Your art can come alive on a variety of materials that includes glass, wood, phone cases, and picture frames.

Your mantle is sure to stand out with engraved wood decorations. Create your own designs on a MakerSpace computer equipped with the Adobe Creative Suite and use the Main MakerSpace’s laser engraver, opens a new window to make decorations fit for the holidays (which could also be great stocking stuffers).

Let it snow no matter what the weather is outside by making your own winter wonderland. Create snowflake decals on a MakerSpace vinyl printer, opens a new window at the Downtown Main Library.

Wrap It Up

Gifts are thoughtful and affordable when you use a MakerSpace. Thanks to the Library’s reasonable pricing all you’ll worry about is getting a bigger sleigh to deliver all of your gifts.

Create coasters using custom designs to wish friends and family tidings of comfort and joy. Reserve the MakerSpace UV printer, opens a new window at the Downtown Main Library to get started.

Top the tree with a custom star or gift an ornament made from scratch with the help of the Main MakerSpace’s laser engraver, opens a new window.

Your gifts aren’t the only thing that can be custom-made this year. Use the vinyl printer, opens a new window at the Main MakerSpace to create individualized labels from designs you choose.

Gift a family recipe book, a photo album, a compilation of your favorite holiday stories, and more with the Main MakerSpace’s Espresso Book Machine, opens a new window. Reserve this equipment and make your own paperback book perfectly bound with retail quality.

Embrace the Holiday Spirit

Experiencing the joy of the holidays with others is a gift in itself. MakerSpace is the place to craft together and create with friends and family of all ages.

Create your own ornaments, decorations, posters, collages, signs, and more with a MakerSpace Ellison machine, opens a new window. Located at the Main Makerspace with dozens of pre-made designs, all you’ll need to bring is some paper and your imagination.

Leave no room for error in showing who is naughty and nice this year. Create these buttons, opens a new window at any MakerSpace location, or use a design of your own to send a merrier message of your choosing.

Imagination is the only limit when you visit any of CHPL’s MakerSpaces. With 3D printers, digital creation studios, sewing equipment, and more there’s plenty of cheer for those visiting the Library this season.
