Nine is feeling fine at the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library. Thanks to the residents of Hamilton County who love to use and visit their library, CHPL has been designated a Five-Star Library for the ninth year in a row.
The Library Journal’s Index of Public Library Service is a national ranking system comparing the 17,000+ U.S. public libraries on the quantities of services they deliver based on per capita statistics for library visits, circulation, program attendance, and public Internet and WiFi use. The Library Journal rankings give an overall indication of how libraries stack up to their peers nationally.
“We are excited to once again be named a Five-Star Library,” said Paula Brehm-Heeger, the Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director of the Library. “Besides continuing to provide essential services during the pandemic, we were proud to join the growing number of libraries who have eliminated late fees and thus opened up the library’s resources to those who need them most without fear of financial debt.”
CHPL is the second-ranked library in the country in the $30+ million expenditure category, with a circulation of 21.05 per capita in a population of 802,374. CHPL also has an e-circulation of 5.24 per capita, 6.97 visits per capita, and a program attendance of .56 per capita.
This is the 14th year in which LJ has scored U.S. public libraries on the LJ Index of Public Library Service and awarded Star Library ratings. The 2021 scores and ratings are based on the fiscal year 2019 data from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Public Library Survey (PLS).
