Writers encouraged to apply to be the next Library Foundation Writer-in-Residence

The Library Foundation of Cincinnati and Hamilton County will accept applications for the 2020 Writer-in-Residence position beginning Monday, July 1. The author chosen for this prestigious honor serves as the Library’s literary ambassador to the community. This person receives a $10,000 stipend and promotion by the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and the Library Foundation.

The goal of the Writer-in-Residence program is to foster a relationship between the Library and the community’s writers and readers by providing instruction on the craft of writing, both online and in person. The Writer-in-Residence will also serve as the Library’s representative in the local literary arts scene. During the residency period, The Writer-in-Residence is required to:

  • Conduct a minimum of three public writing workshops at the Main Library
  • Hold monthly office hours at a Library location
  • Write a minimum of 24 blog posts each year
  • Host a monthly podcast
  • Host, appear or speak at other Library and community events and participate in Library promotions.
  • Complete a written work that can be shared at the end of the residency.

The successful candidate will:

  • Live in southwest Ohio (priority given to Hamilton County residents)
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be actively engaged in the local literary arts community
  • Possess a record of past achievements, strong artistic merit and a commitment towards advancing the literary arts
  • Have experience teaching writing or conducting writing workshops

Any writer may apply, but priority is given to writers in fiction, narrative non-fiction, including history, biography/memoir, children’s literature, YA literature or graphic novels.

To apply, authors should submit an online statement of interest and qualifications. The online application will be available beginning July 1 at CincinnatiLibraryFoundation.org.
