The new home for the Deer Park Next Generation Library is going to be a place that welcomes, supports and inspires the community, sustaining the mission to connect people with the world of ideas and information. It is going to be a place that encourages the community to gather, connecting with each other and with essential services.
The Library Board of Trustees voted in October 2020 to lease a 25,000-square-foot site in the shopping center at 3900 E. Galbraith Road, a space about five times the size of its current location in the same center.
Plans for the new space include:
- Transforming the former T.J. Maxx to become an accessible, inviting, and vibrant information and community hub.
- Designing a flexible space that adapts to meet the changing needs of the community and anticipates future services, programs, and technologies.
- Investing in the most immediate community while also attracting people from the larger, more diverse northeast region; providing a full range of services from traditional to emerging.
- Engaging patrons with spaces provided for a range of activities including collaborative areas and large program rooms to spaces for exploration and quiet focus.
The Library expects to invest approximately $5 million in this effort and hopes to have the work complete by early 2021. The current Deer Park Branch location remains open for library services.
