The Espresso Book Machine (EBM) is a fully integrated, high-speed, compact machine that automatically prints, binds and trims—on demand, at point of sale—perfectly bound, retail quality paperback books.
The EBM can make a trade paperback book, with trim size, from 5 inches to 10.5 inches in height and 4.5 inches to 8.25 inches in width. It can hold a page volume of 40–700 pages. The EBM prints books and binds them with commercial-grade binding glue. The book is then covered in a full-color cover.
EBM can print vibrant color covers, but only uses grayscale for the book interior. Pictures and illustrations are in grayscale but are crisp and high quality.
What You'll Need
You can print your own book, as long as your book meets our size criteria. Talk with one of our staff members and learn how to publish your very own book. Take a few minutes to review our Espresso Book Machine Self-Publishing Tips guide (PDF) to ensure your file is formatted correctly.
The price of books made on the EBM varies depending on the set up of each book. If it is an original work, there is a setup fee, a fee for the cover, and a fee for each interior page.
If you are printing from the EBM catalog, there is no setup fee—only the cost to print the cover and interior pages.
We also offer ISBN, bar code creation, and Library of Congress Control Numbers. Check our price list for the breakdown of costs.
First, submit your information via our EBM Book Order form. Once you have submitted a request, you will be contacted in 48 hours to make an appointment for a consultation. During the consultation, a staff member will assist you with how to set up your file and provide an estimated time for printing.
Note: The submission form cannot accept files larger than 30MB combined. If your files are larger than 30MB please contact the MakerSpace directly.
