About the 2021 Mary Finley Memorial Essay and Speech Contest

This contest honors Mary Finley, one of the first African American librarians hired by the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library. This contest is open to West End students and residents in grades 5-10.

Contestants are asked to reflect upon what the Library means to them, and compose an essay about the topic.

Prizes:

  • First place: $150 Visa gift card
  • Second place: $75 Visa gift card
  • Third place: $50 Visa gift card

Please submit your entry by midnight Friday, Oct. 15, 2021.

    Submit your essay using one of the two methods below. Your essay must be 200-500 words in length.
